Owen Danoff: A DC native turned TV superstar

Since February 18 2015, we’ve been fans of Owen Danoff. Planning to see Leighton Meester (best known for playing Blair Waldorf on the TV show “Gossip Girl”) we walked into Alexandria, Va.’s Birchmere Theater side-by-side with a random guy holding a guitar. To our surprise, he was the opening act! We loved his music, all of which were original songs, just him and his guitar.

Almost exactly a year later, Danoff announced that he would be a contestant on NBC’s music competition show “The Voice”. As we tuned in to see his blind audition, we were excited to learn that he is a DC native. Danoff made it to the live shows and ultimately placed eleventh.

Come August 27, we were waiting in line to buy tickets to Danoff’s performance at The Circus Life concert at the 9:30 club. Coincidentally, Owen Danoff turned the corner with his dinner in hand, and we continued our tradition of walking into the venue with him.

Danoff played a great show, and we were lucky enough to talk to him after. He grew up in close proximity to Wilson, but he went to Gonzaga for high school. After we mentioned Wilson, he knew exactly what we were talking about, and mentioned that a lot of his friends went to Wilson. It’s pretty cool that someone on The Voice is so close to us. Although he lives in Nashville now, his parents still live close,  and we’re excited to hear his EP, “Love on your Side,” coming out next month.
