The theme of this year’s StudentCam Documentary Competition, an annual contest for students held by C-SPAN, was “The Three Branches & You.” C-SPAN received 2,280 films from nearly 5,000 students. Three teams from Wilson placed third place with each team winning $750 to split among the members, as well as the chance for their documentary to be aired on C-SPAN.
Junior Carl Stewart and seniors Evan Pisani and Sam Dryer placed with their film “Up in the Air,” about the Federal Aviation Administration’s policies on commercial drone usage. It can be seen here: http://www.viddler.com/v/
Seniors Beatrice Mackay and Alexis Primus also placed with their documentary “HIV and AIDS in the Nation’s Capital,” which details the history of HIV in AIDS in DC, since DC has the highest rates of the virus and disease in the country. Watch here: http://www.viddler.com/v/
Lastly, junior Helen Malhotra’s documentary “District of Columbia: Taxation without Representation,” joined the third place winners. This film, on DC’s representation, home rule, and democracy, can be seen here: http://www.viddler.com/v/
Three out of six Wilson documentaries were third place winners. To see all of the winners, click here: http://www.studentcam.
And, we don’t mean to brag, two of the winners are Beacon staff members.
