Wilson’s seniors say ‘see ya later,’ snagging city championship

When the bowling team’s bus pulled up at the Bolling Air Force base to play their championship game on Friday April 8th, two trophies were sitting on a table inside. By 5 p.m. that afternoon, the trophy weighed in their hands. This trophy was the bigger one that was gold and read first place. Wilson’s A team brought their A game and beat School Without Walls after consistently beating the 12 other teams in the league since the season began in early March. They won the first game 547 to 493 and the second game 491 to 421. The A team has four players: seniors Jenna Young, Ingrid Fekete, Shannon Muller, and junior Sophie Reveal.

Wilson won the first game by 54 points and the next game by 70. “I think that during the game as soon as they saw how well we were doing they got kind of tired and started not really wanting to be a part of the game anymore,” co-captain Young says. She’s been playing since her freshman year, when the team first formed. Her personal score of 204 points really helped her team get an advantage, as did Reveal’s 151 points.

Going into the game Young and Fekete were pretty confident they would win since they had beaten them in the past. “We knew we were going to beat them.” co-captain Fekete admits. They even brought a cake with them to the bowling alley, assuming they would be celebrating a couple hours later.

However, both teams remained good sports. “They seemed to be upset but they also wanted to be supportive,” Young says. Both teams clapped for each other but didn’t really talk.  For Wilson’s senior players, it was the perfect way to finish their high school bowling career. “My final bowl was a strike, so that was awesome!” Fekete says. •
