If you walk the halls of Wilson, you may just spot a baby. Since the beginning of the school year, three Wilson faculty members have had children. We got in touch with the new mothers to get an update on the first months of motherhood.

Art teacher Mary Lambert’s son Dillon Jack Lambert was born on November 3, 2017. Lambert said that everyone at Wilson was very understanding of her pregnancy needs, as her job is very labor intensive, “lots of cleaning, building and recycling clay. I had a lot of support from students and coworkers,” she said. She has brought Dillon to Wilson a couple of times, and returned to work on March 12.

Spencer Elle Holcombe, the daughter of math teacher Lindsay Holcombe, was born on December 4, 2017. “At three months pregnant I was exhausted and nauseous and at eight months pregnant I was large and it was tough to get around,” Holcombe said. Now that she has had her baby, Holcombe has been enjoying motherhood. “Our mother-daughter bond becomes stronger each day… she changes so much, which keeps me on my toes,” she said. Holcombe returned to Wilson on April 17.

Social worker Lacey Maddrey’s daughter, Zola Mae, was born on August 19, 2017. Maddrey has brought Zola Mae to Wilson twice, and said that “she’s got quite the following here at school.” Students were very understanding of her pregnancy needs, and would even shield Maddrey if the halls got rowdy. Now that she’s back at Wilson, Maddrey said that, “Between trying to see all of my students, pumping milk three times a day, and keeping a tight schedule so I can get home to relieve the childcare, it’s been non-stop busy, but I am very glad to be back and reunited with my first babies.”

“I’m really excited to take her to the beach and back to my family farm. Seeing the world through a little one’s eyes is an inexplicable gift,” she said.

If you see one of these staff members, make sure to congratulate them on their new baby! •
