Next year, senior guard Jay Heath will be part of the tradition that is Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) basketball. Over the summer, Heath finished his recruitment process and committed to Boston College (BC). Heath decided BC was the best school for him during his official visit this summer. Heath also held offers from Georgetown, Rhode Island, Kansas State and VCU.

“The environment is like a family,” Heath said regarding what stood out to him on his visit to the school. The 2018 DCSAA tournament MVP played a key role in taking Wilson to the pinnacle of basketball in the DC area. Heath was the leading scorer for Team Melo in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) this summer, arguably the top AAU circuit in the nation. Due to his great play, Heath says, “schools are still trying to recruit me,” but he’s “locked into [Boston College],” a school he’s been in contact with since May.

BC has sent players like Reggie Jackson and Jared Dudley to the NBA over the past several years. Former guard Jerome Robinson was drafted 13th overall in the 2018 Draft. And with junior guard Ky Bowman poised to be drafted in the 2019 Draft, BC is a “great opportunity to achieve my goal [of going to the NBA],” according to Heath. Heath is currently the only player committed to BC in the class of 2019.

Heath wants to win at the next level. “I will make a big impact right away,” he said. He also noted that his goals are to, “hopefully win our league championship, a national championship, then go to the league.” Heath’s excitement for BC goes beyond the basketball court. “They have a big sociology program and I’m looking forward to studying that,” he said. Heath hopes to lead Wilson to another DCSAA and DCIAA title before enrolling this fall.
